Best British and Irish Flash Fiction 2018 -2019 - TSS Publishing




From 1st June 2018 to 31st May 2019, four Senior Editors will be curating a comprehensive list of outstanding Flash Fiction published online and in print, written by citizens of Britain and Ireland.

Each season a Senior Editor will be responsible for curating and selecting a list of Flash Fiction with discussion and debate over the final list to take place in June 2019.

Editors and publishers of websites, journals, magazines, anthologies, and collections are encouraged to submit recommendations to our Senior Editors, via our online portal: HERE

URL links or Word documents can be attached. Editors and publishers are equally welcome to contact Senior Editors and send them Flash Fiction in hard copy.

Individual writers should NOT submit their work or the work of others, however they may make suggestions via email or on social media. We do encourage the involvement of the Flash Fiction community.

Criteria
  • Language: English
  • Writer’s Nationality: British or Irish
  • Publication: Open globally, print or online. Writers must be British or Irish.
  • Published between: 1stth June 2018 and 31st May 2019
  • Type: Flash Fiction
  • Length: 100 – 1000 words
  • Genre: Any

We are committed to finding the very best Flash Fiction from all over Britain and Ireland, encouraging and embracing writers from any and every background.

Process
Each Senior editor will be responsible for collating at least 50 exceptional Flash Fiction during their reading period, with a list of at least 200 pieces being gathered by 31st May 2019. The Senior editors will then meet to whittle down the list to a longlist of 100, and a shortlist of the best 50 Flash Fiction written by British and Irish authors.

ObjectivesThe U.K. and Ireland are fast becoming home to Flash Fiction, with publications, competitions, and writers emerging all across these two small, neighbouring islands.

TSS Publishing wishes to celebrate this wealth of talent and reinforce the extraordinary opportunity this wonderful form has to offer.

Honest Ulsterman - Open Submission Call



We're calling for poetry (up to 4 poems), prose and critical writing, suggestions for interviews etc for our October issue. Prose can be up to 5000 words. We prefer submissions to be made in Word (or similar) format. We'd also welcome aural/video poetry. Aural/Video submissions should have a link to Soundcloud/Youtube etc. Please put your name in the body of your submission email otherwise it may accidentally end up in the Spam folder. There is no fee for submitting. As we are a free online magazine we unfortunately cannot pay those who have successful submissions. Submissions can be sent to: hueditor@theverbal.co

The Caterpillar Short Story Prize 2018


THE CATERPILLAR STORY PRIZE 2018 IS NOW OPEN!

Welcome to this year's Caterpillar Story Prize.
The prize is for a story written by an adult for children (aged 7–11).
We are looking for stories that will inspire, delight and move our young readers. The winning story will appear in the winter issue of The Caterpillar.

The stories can be on any subject and in any style, as long as they are age appropriate, and the word limit is 1,500.


HOW TO ENTER

The Prize is open to anyone (over 16), as long as the work is original and previously unpublished.
The entry fee is €12 per story, and you can enter as many stories as you like.
You can ENTER ONLINE or send your story along with a cheque or postal order made payable to ‘The Moth Magazine Ltd’
with an ENTRY FORM or a cover letter with your name and contact details and the title of story attached to:
The Caterpillar, Ardan Grange, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, Ireland.

The Masters Review - Flash Fiction Contest


Our love of flash fiction runs deep. We are proud to now offer a contest dedicated solely to flash twice a year. This is the first time we have offered a summer contest for tiny and mighty fiction. The winning writer will be awarded $3000 and publication on The Masters Review site. Second and third place will be awarded $300 and $200, respectively, as well as publication in The Masters Review. So here it is: a home for your very best small fiction.

GUIDELINES:

  • Winner receives $3000 and publication
  • Second and third place prizes are $300 and $200 respectively
  • Stories under 1000 words
  • Previously unpublished stories only
  • Simultaneous and multiple submissions allowed
  • Emerging writers only (We are interested in offering a larger platform to new writers. Self-published writers and writers with story collections and novels with a small circulation are welcome to submit.)
  • International submissions allowed
  • $20 entry fee allows up to two stories – if submitting two stories, please put them both in a SINGLE document.
  • Deadline: September 30, 2018
  • Please no identifying information on your story
